The Dignity of Self-Control.

"The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence." - Denis Waitley

While the title to this article is purposefully misleading in order to make her point sound coonish, I actually agree with her. It's something that I've been saying for many years now: People of color need to understand the philosophical worth and dignity in creating our own characters rather than asking to be incorporated into other people's works because when you do that, you're systematically becoming more beholden to another group's power structure with no intent on owning rather than renting so to speak.

Keep Idris Elba away from James Bond, leave the traditional Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and dont bother with anymore ethnic changes to already-established white characters in comic book adaptations in my opinion.

Why? Well, just imagine a world where Terrence Howard never lost his War Machine role in the "Iron Man" franchise because he refused to kiss Marvel's ass and never would've been beholden to their control in the first place or a world where Dwayne McDuffie's "Icon" characters rivaled conglomerates like Marvel and DC instead of becoming a mere imprint to one of them the way it has.... just imagine.
