"You go backwards, but then you go forwards again." - Chris Martin
Today has been one of the most interesting and fun days I've experienced in a very long while!
The day started off at five in the morning when my cell phone's alarm woke me up. Afterwards, I freshened up, got dressed, and headed down to the train station to start my day off. Refreshingly, today's soundtrack started with Coldplay's album "Viva La Vida".... an album I'd usually reserve for the moments when I'm deep in the pre-production of a montage.
But overall, the train ride seemed to go by faster than it did yesterday morning - possibly because I couldn't get over the awesomeness of last night's excellent episodes of Supernatural and Smallville ("The Third Man" was honestly one of the very best Supernatural episodes ever!). By nine o'clock I was at the convention center, on the waiting line in the center's waiting area, and listening to Nine Inch Nails' "With Teeth".
Fast-forward an hour later, and I was already in Artists Alley along with the other creative riff-raff who attended the convention today. Giving credit where credit is due: Reed Exhibitions really put their best foot forward this year, in terms of managing and planning the convention; The lines moved fast, the volunteers seemed more knowledgeable compared to previous years, and most of all: There wasn't much confusion this year.
The first stop at the convention today was at David Finch's table - a long process on an even longer line which took up over an entire hour of my time thanks to the morons in front of me who constantly requested sketches from the poor man (although I'm pretty sure poor wouldn't apply to someone who charged over sixty bucks for even a small head-shot sketch, but I digress....). Next up, I headed over to J.C. Comics' table in order to buy a mint-conditioned copy of Uncanny X-Men #137 - the last issue of the original Phoenix Saga. After that, I got the issue signed by Chris Claremont.
Somewhere between buying a couple of comics from a dealer's $1.00 box, drinking a shot of promotional vitamin water at a complimentary booth in the middle of the show floor, and constantly pushing and shoving my way through the endless sea of costumed nerds (Yep, that's right! I'm looking down my snobby nose at my fellow collectors!
), I found myself waiting (to no avail) at Tom DeFalco's empty table in hopes of getting my massive Spider-Girl collection signed.
By the end of the day, I'd gotten the majority of my comics signed - accomplishing my original goal of meeting a near-100% autograph rate (without a doubt in my mind: EVERYTHING will be signed by the end of tomorrow - It's only five measly things that I've got left over to get signed out of the comics which I originally pulled out from my collection two days ago).
I was going to try and meet Moon Bloodgood today BUT the line to meet her was sooooooooooo long that I just got turned off of the idea and ended up heading home.
Yesterday's Signatures: Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Billy Tucci, Scott Hanna, Ryan Benjamin, Dustin Nguyen, Arthur Suydam, J.K. Woodward, Steve McNiven, Don Kramer, and Larry Hama.
Today's Signatures: Sal Larroca, David Finch, Olivier Coipel, Chris Claremont, Greg Pak, and Poalo Rivera.

Well, I'm off to bed so I'll be good and energized for the final day of the fifth annual New York Comic-Con.... [Yawn, Yawn, Yawn!].
(Nonetheless: Today was one filled with extreme fun....)
