....and he's American.
So, I'm just getting in from seeing a early screening of Watchmen last night and I have to say... it's SPECTACULAR. It was litterally like nothing I'd seen before. This is one film that absolutley MUST be placed somewhere on every comic book fans' "Top 3" list of favorite comic book adaptions to the big screen of all time.
I feel that the writers got almost every detail correct for the screen, especially with Silk Spectre II, Nite Owl and Doctor Manhattan's storylines, backgrounds, personalities and dialogue.
Acting wise, I thought Supernatural vet, Jeffrey Dean Morgan did the best job out of the entire cast but overall, every single actor and actress in the film did outstandingly excellent. Malin Ackerman also deserves praise for her portrayal of Laurie Juspeczyk ( Silk Spectre II) especially in scenes featuring Carla Gugino as
Sally Jupiter. In addition to the SFX, Billy Crudup's portrayal of the god-like Doctor Manhattan was out of this world along with Jackie Earle Haley's performance as Rorschach, which to me, was as faithful to the comic book as any actor could've possibly acted out the part.
In my opinion, Zack Snyder should've kept the squid ending despite what the studio's feeling about the screen-time were but I'm glad it'll be on the director's cut of the DVD. On the other end, Snyder took the comics pretty seriously and was able to put together an astonishing piece of work. In his usual tradition of good work, Zack Snyder left me as well as the rest of the audience by the end of the film with a feeling of true moral and a game-changing perspective on the world for a few moments although I still saw things pretty much the same afterwards as usual.
This film was a visually astounding work of true art and I'm glad it was so respectful and faithful to the source material of which it was based upon. The acting was outstanding, the writing was incredible, the direction was excellent and the special effects were like nothing cinema has ever seen. I felt that the film was right on par with The Dark Knight in almost every single way and that the dramatic essence of the movie was as powerful as it could've possibly been.
Many fanboys will bad-mouth this movie as they do everything else but trust me.... the movie is worth every cent! It's a guaranteed epic journey that deserves to be given a chance by all fans and non-fans alike.
